about amber (by amber)

i started out as a short story writer, with a dash of rock journalism on the side, in my late teens.

the short stories took over for a good long time. wishing to expand my horizons, for a few years, i published a literary journal of my own, and learned a lot from that.

hot on the heels of ending my journal editing-and-publishing experience, my husband and i welcomed the “new addition” of a five hundred pound iron hand printing press into our home… and followed it up with a daughter, and a son.

since then, i have incorporated some of the other loves in my life — knitting, korean culture, tarot — into non-fiction writing projects. these have offered me benefits, introductions, and experiences. but the writing itself has never been as cathartic, or creative, as short stories are.

i’m still always willing to throw as many things at the wall as i can, and see which ones stick. i don’t worry when things don’t go on forever. i like a new project, particularly when it involves writing. i love to collaborate, but i know — and am, frankly, proud of the fact — that i’m hard to keep up with.

it is still short stories which are most important to me, and those require no (willing) collaboration.

this site will provide updates as to what i am having published, and where. some posts will be about knitting, although this will be no knitting blog. there may be updates about korean or african-american cultural and educational events as they relate to our family. there may be some family photos, and more at my flickr account.

my hagiography would include the following people:  marcel proust, boy george, the writers and producers of mystery science theatre 3000, b. r. myers, george romero, joe bob briggs, leigh bowery, and carl sagan.
